As a student, I believe the two most helpful technologies for me are Livebinders and Rescue Time. These two technologies are both very applicable for me, and I can incorporate many of their uses into my own daily life. For example, Livebinders allows me to store all my notes on a safer and more organized platform. I can definitely see myself using this technology in the future to replace physical 3-ring binders. In terms of benefits, Livebinders makes organizing and maintaining notes much easier. This means that I would never have to ask my friends for a checklist of all notes before the exam. Another important feature of Livebinders is that it allows users to share their notes with others through an easily accessible link. I think that this is also a feature which I can put to good use. I am getting tired of emailing my friends my school-related files, and I believe the share option in Livebinders can certainly make my life much easier.
The second technology that I believe would be very useful for me is Rescue Time. Personally I often find myself losing track of time when doing things at home. Sometimes I actually feel that I need something to help me manage my time better, and I believe Rescue Time would be a great tool. This technology gives users a complete and through report of how their time was spent throughout the entire day. I certainly find this very useful, and in fact it is exactly what I need. I need something to tell me where all my time was spent, because sometimes I still find myself piled with uncompleted work at the end of a day. With the report that Rescue Time provides, I will be able to easily determine the factors that are costing me the most time and make adjustments to my schedule accordingly. Whether its social media, games, or outdoor activities, I am honestly curious to find out what is affecting my schedule the most through Rescue Time. For me, this technology could definitely serve its purpose. The presentation for Poll Everywhere immediately reminded me of my Introduction to Anthropology, Sociology and Psychology class (HSP3U1). In this class the teacher always asks the class for our general opinions, and there will always be interesting but different answers given by the students. This is a class where informal surveying is extremely frequent, and I strongly believe that Poll everywhere would be a useful tool here. Instead of posing a question to the class verbally, the teacher could just set up a poll and ask for responses in that manner. Also, the questions asked in HSP3U1 often include different possible answers. In Poll Everywhere, this can simply take form of multiple choice or up/down votes, and the class’ opinions can then be easily seen. Overall, I believe that Poll Everywhere be easily integrated into the class, and it can be a useful tool. On a teacher’s perspective, I believe Poll Everywhere is the most helpful tool out of the ones presented in class. This is primarily because the tool has a potential of significantly improving student engagement, and that it gives the students a different sense of learning. For example, one of the features that Poll Everywhere provides is to answer questions anonymously. This can be a lifesaver for ones who are too shy to share their opinions in front of the whole class, and thus could lead to an increase in classroom participation. Also, Poll Everywhere allows the teacher to receive multiple responses to a question at once. This could reduce the amount of chaos in class discussion, such as students talking over each other, and thus improving the efficiency. Finally, Poll Everywhere allows all the students to participate through answering polls, whether it’s multiple choice, up/down vote, or the other questioning forms. These polls can be used to keep students on track with the lesson, and might even get disengaged students to be interested in the topic. After all, Poll Everywhere offers many uses for teachers to take advantage of, and therefore I believe that it would be very helpful for one’s teaching practice.

I am actually quite satisfied with my final product. This was the very first time I’ve made a video like this, and I think it was a success. I had to put in a great deal of work, because I was very willing to do well. From learning how to use new software to writing a script and recording myself, in total I spent about 9 hours on creating the video. I’ll say that I tried my best to produce a quality product. There are definitely things which I can still refine in my video, but overall I’d say that this counts as one of my best possible work.
As a fact, even though I had the time to work on my assignment earlier I still decided to start the assignment on Sunday afternoon. I did not give my learning task assignment a high priority; however I still managed to accomplish what I was aiming for before the deadline. Therefore, since the quality of my final product was not negatively affected, I wouldn’t say that I’ve procrastinated. As previously mentioned, I honestly did not prioritize this assignment. For me this meant that during the given class time I was not being very productive on this assignment, and I was working on other homework instead. During the two periods when the network service was still available, I only did a very brief research about the task and did not accomplish much. Therefore to be honest I don’t think I’ve used my given class periods effectively. I do have my regrets though. In terms of expectancy, I had much confidence throughout the entire assignment. From when it was assigned to when I submitted the assignment, I always believed that I could do well and will do well. In terms of value, I always had the mindset of trying to get the highest marks, but in this assignment I was also trying to produce a product that I am proud of. I started working harder after deciding to create a YouTube video because I wanted my first video to be qualitative. Therefore for me the motivation factor in this assignment was both the marks and the task itself. Finally, in terms of delay, I left this assignment until less than a day before the deadline. This is because even though I value the task, I didn’t prioritize it over my other work. I’m glad that my delay did not cause any real negative impacts. I feel that I’ve already gotten used to this class’ structure. Considering that I was able to submit all my work before deadlines and complete them with decent quality, I don't think I have any issues with the multiple work periods and loose guidelines. Though, if there is one thing that I’d suggest for a change, it would probably be to assign only one assignment at a time. Although I am quite comfortable with how this class is currently structured, one thing that slightly worries me is the fact that I am working on multiple assignments at once. This creates a little bit more stress, and I don’t quite enjoy it. However this is only a minor suggestion and I believe the classroom structure is fine as it is. |
